I want to apply for my childs pport, i don't know where the father is?

I haven't seen the father of my child for the past 8 or 9 years, i don't know where is whereabouts are, can i still apply for my childs pport? i am married for 7 years now to someone else, is that proof enough? how can i proof i don't know where the father is?
