Does anybody remember what this book is?

It was like an adventure type book, more like a thriller, suspenseful, and it would be about this boy who was an agent and the book would have a scorpion or other animals of that sort with a metallic cover, it was a fairly hefty book, and my teacher would always read it... Hopefully this helps, I really really loved reading those books, I totally forgot the name of them.. Please help!
