How do I get a series 7 sponsorship?

I been emailing out a lot of resumes since a few weeks ago to series 7 sponsorship postings, perhaps that's not enough? I have a degree in finance(almost a yr), and some (mostly unrelated) experience, including a insurance license. Perhaps I might be a little over qualified? What kind of resumes should I be sending? My friend said he works for 2 trading companies and can perhaps train me to trade, would that help? My ultimate goal is to be a financial yst, since I don't have much finance related experience, I wanted a place to start and perhaps take the cfa exams.. Any suggestions? Thank you.
