Honda accord oil change, spilling eveyrwhere?

i bought a used 94 accord from a private owner 4 months ago, been driving fine, but i just did an oil change yesterday and when i started the car, oil was pouring out from underneath, so i shut off the car, and the spilling stopped, i got under, and the oil filter was already pretty snug, but i got an oil filter wrench and tightened it as much as i could [which i know you're not supposed to] and started the car, and the spilling completley stopped, let it idle for 5 minutes, checked it and it stopped. so, then i drove to my sisters house 3 miles away, and noticed oil spilling everywhere all over again. i've done tons of oil changes, but this is the first time this has ever happend to me.. could it be a bad oil filter? is the block ****** up? anyone know??
